Pune: The total number of active cases are on a steady decline in the city area, but the number of critical patients and test positivity rate is still a cause of concern for the civic and district administration.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) in its daily medical bulletin of Saturday (August 15) has said that 354102 residents have been tested for Covid-19 and of which 72576 or 20.49 per cent have tested positive for Covid-19. From these positive tested patients, about 56,245 have recovered so far and 14,621 are undergoing treatment. 1,710 deaths have been reported so far.
About 1,073 fresh positive cases and 27 deaths were reported on Saturday. A total of 760 patients are critical with 466 on ventilators and 294 in ICU without ventilators. Also, 2,432 are undergoing oxygen treatment.
PMC’s iHealWell app has also revealed that out of the 496 Covid-19 patients in critical care, about 222 suffer from diabetes, hypertension, or both. The app which tracks critical patients in 50 hospitals across the city. Of the total Covid-19 affected patients, 67 per cent are male and 32 per cent are female. Age-wise, the 51-60-year-old age group is the most affected in terms of a number of patients in critical care.
Diabetes and hypertension have emerged as the most common comorbidities causing the most damage among Covid-19 patients. Further breakup of the 496 patients in critical care reveals that 84 patients have both diabetes and hypertension; while 80 have only diabetes; and 58 have only hypertension.
