Mumbai: The Maharashtra administration is planning of permitting shopping malls and gyms to reopen, Health Minister Rajesh Tope said on Wednesday.
The Health Minister, however, made it clear that a decision regarding restarting the local train functions will be taken by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The Health Minister stated that the government is improbable to enforce the lockdown again as the process of unlocking has begun.
"Gyms and shopping malls are important and we are thinking to reopen it soon," Tope said.
On the restarting of local trains in Mumbai, Tope quoted a reason for overcrowding behind the postponement. He said, "Local trains are the lifeline of Mumbai but there is no guarantee that the travellers will follow the social distancing. The CM will take a final decision regarding resumption of it.”
'MISSION ZERO' PROJECT IN PUNE
The Health Minister stated the government will apply the 'Mission Zero' project in Pune which is continually witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases.
"The aim will be on increasing the number of tests, isolation and beds. We will also initiate a single point contact system so that the all will get all info available at one single place," he said. The 10-day strict-shutdown in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad comes to an end on July 23 at a time when Pune beat Delhi, Mumbai, in the number of the daily coronavirus cases. Of the total 3,218 new cases, 1,625 were reported in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) jurisdiction, where the number of patients has now gone over 39,060.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra continues to witness the wave of the infection. 10,576 new COVID-19 cases were reported on Wednesday, the state's highest single-day rise in coronavirus cases. It registered 208 new fatalities taking the state's tally to 3,37,607 and 12,556 deaths.
