COVID-19: City sees an increase in air travel amid an outbreak

Pune: Although the number of corona patients has been increasing in the last few months, the flow of people coming to Pune has not decreased. The number of passengers arriving in Pune by air is more than the number of passengers leaving the city.

By July, the picture was quite the opposite. Out of about 1.10 lakh passengers this month, there were about 67,000 passengers. In August and September, the figures were reversed. In particular, the number of patients has been increasing rapidly since August.

The airline, which was grounded due to the lockdown, resumed operations on May 25. Initially, the number of aircraft and passengers was very limited. About 30 flights were plying from Pune airport every day in May.

In June, the number rose to about 45. Since July, 50 to 60 flights have been plying daily. Also, the number of passengers is increasing day by day. The number of COVID-19 cases in Pune has been increasing rapidly since July. Since then, the number of air passengers arriving in Pune has also been increasing. In July, a total of 1.10 lakh passengers came and went by plane.

About 65,000 passengers were to come in. The number of passers-by was about 67,000. But the number of passengers arriving in Pune has increased since August.

About 1.5 lakh passengers boarded 1684 flights in August. There were about 80,000 passengers in it. As on September 19, out of about 1.18 lakh passengers, about 65,000 passengers have arrived in Pune. This number is expected to rise further by the end of the month.

Only 20% more passengers than last year

Due to COVID related travel restrictions, airlines have been operating only in major cities. As a result, 15 to 20 per cent of the passengers are coming and going every year. The number of aircraft is between 30 and 35 per cent. Airlines operate to major cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Nagpur. In July last year, about 7 lakh 20 thousand passengers had come and gone in Pune.

Comparing the number of incoming and outgoing patients in the last three months 

The month of August saw 43,277 incoming passengers vs 70,173 outgoing passengers. 

The month of July saw 79,415 incoming passengers vs 66701 outgoing passengers. 

The month of September saw 64,705 incoming passengers vs 53,388 outgoing passengers. 

Aircraft and passenger numbers from April to August

In the month of April, the operating aircraft were 6 and the outgoing passengers were 130. In May there were 2041 In the month of April the operating aircraft vs, 7,295 outgoing passengers. Likewise in June the number of operating aircrafts were1391 and the number of travellers were 1,17,550. Finally, in July the number of operating aircraft was 1440 vs the number of travellers were 1,09,978.

In August 1684 operating aircraft with 1,49,588 travelling passangers.
