PUNE: The Pune district administration has given permission to 180 sanitised auto-rickshaw in the city to operate and ferry people who need it in case of emergency.
"Those who need auti-rickshaw for emergency travel within the city can call on mobile number 9859198591. Around 180 auto-rickshaws are available," said Rahul Shitole, the cordinator of this service.
Shitole is an engineer turned entrepreneur who had started the pre-paid auto-rickshaw booth at Pune Railway station a few months back.
He approached the police to start this emergency service in the wake of a state-wide curfew announced earlier this week, followed by the nation-wide lock down announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday.
He has received around 1500 emergency calls from commuters on Wednesday for medical emergency. On Tuesday he received 3500 calls mostly for airport service as it was the last day of domestic flights operation.
The auto-rickshaws under this service are sanitised before and after passenger pick or drop. It is compulsory for commuter to wear mask. The auto driver had already been given a sanitiser.
The service has been started under guidance if Pune Regional Transport Office(RTO), Rickshaw Panchayat, Pune auto-rickshaw federation, auto-glide and city traffic police," said Shitole
