Coronavirus Pune: Shops in city introduce ‘no mask, no entry’ campaign

Pune: Day-by-day the coronavirus cases are increasing the Pune city. Though ‘Mission Begin Again’ has given some relaxations on the ‘Unlock 1.0’, the administration is taking strict actions who are breaking the laws of social distancing.

The shops which have been asked to operate have asked to follow all safety guidelines in order to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus. Keeping same in mind, the shopkeepers in Pune are vigilant for their customers and have started a campaign ‘No Mask, No Entry’ in their shop.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) recently constituted 30 staffers squads who are trapping such people who are spitting and not wearing masks. The people found will be fined Rs 1,000. As well as the shops, hawkers and the offices not following the adequate guidelines such as social distancing, checking temperature, wearing gloves, masks will be also be penalized by the PMC's Anti-Encroachment Department.

Many shopkeepers shared their thoughts on ‘No Mask, No Entry’ campaign. Ashwini Gande who owns Vision optics in Ramanbaug Colony, said, “In our area, we all shopkeepers have started with a campaign this campaign in our shop. This is a mandate to all the shopkeepers to follow it religiously as this is our way to fight against coronavirus.”

Rakesh Oswal, owns a grocery store in Dattawadi area. He said, “There are a lot of customers coming to our shop to purchase goods. Many times it is noticed that people without wearing mask come for shopping. While some talking on their mobile phones, remove their mask. We immediately request them even if they are talking they must wear a mask. As others standing in the queue can be transmitted.”

Saurabh Bapat, who has a medical store in Warje said, “There are guidelines issued by Central Government that have come up and we are not in fear that we will be penalised by the authorities but it is our moral duty to be active and be an alert citizen in this pandemic. People claimed that they have applied sanitizer as well as maintain social distance but avoid wearing masks or covering mouth-nose. We request them to wear it, they come up with casual typical remarks nothing will do to them or anyone if they do not wear it. If they deny we do not give them the goods that they were looking for.”

He added, "Many times I use Gandhian way of dealing, after purchasing the goods and medicines from my shop, I give one mask free but ask them to wear a mask first and then the goods that they were demanding will be given to them."
