Coronavirus: Pune RPF to make 10,000 face masks in a week

Pune: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has set a target of making 10,000 home-made masks for people within a week. These masks are being prepared as per the guidelines laid out by Railway Board and health organisations.

“Currently, over ten staffers are busy making the masks and aim to complete 10,000 masks within a week. The masks will be used after washing and sanitising,” said Divisional Security Commissioner Arun Tripathi. However, the employees and staff of the Pune railway division are working day in and day out.

Helping the needy
Besides making the masks, they are also distributing food to needy people.

“The food is being served to the needy people since March 22. At present more than 32000 food packets have been served in the Pune railway division in Pune, Miraj, Kolhapur, Satara, Shivajinagar, Hadapsar, Dehu Road and other stations. The food has been prepared in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) kitchen,” said Manoj Jhawar, Pune Railway Division spokesperson.

Commercial staff at Miraj distributed 25 kg rice and fruits to Maher Vishwadeep Ashram in Miraj.

The ashram is an orphanage for specially-abled children. Also, RPF staff in Kolhapur distributed 125 food packets, biscuit packets and drinking water bottles.

One of the parcel trains will depart from Yeshwantpur to Nizamuddin via Pune on April 13. The parcel train will arrive in Pune on April 14. The railway has requested e-commerce companies to send their essential commodities.

The train will have five parcel vans and two luggage-cum-guard’s vans.
