Coronavirus Pune: Recovered woman dies after getting reinfected by COVID-19

Pune: An elderly woman from Sakhar village of Velhe taluka of Pune district, who had recovered from COVID-19 was found to be re-infected with the virus and died during the treatment at a hospital.

The deceased was having comorbidities and was being treated for it for the past month at a private hospital in Pune city. She was tested positive for COVID-19 a few days before. While she was admitted to a COVID Care Centre for the treatment, she had recovered from the disease. But post-treatment she complained of chest pain at the hospital. So she was shifted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, where she succumbed to the disease. Her swab sample was collected while she was at ICU and the test report of that sample has come positive.

In a separate incident, another 35-year-old woman doctor from Velhe has been confirmed to be COVID-19 positive. Her husband had been identified to be COVID-19 positive, after which her swab samples were collected. Her test report came to be COVID-positive on Thursday. Contact tracing of this doctor has revealed that 12 persons from the health department had come in close contact with her. Their samples too were collected and have been sent to the lab for testing. Their reports are awaited, said Tehsildar Shivaji Shinde.

Meanwhile, District Collector Naval Kishor Ram on Thursday (July 9) instructed his officials to ensure that the contact tracing is done properly and test reports of suspected patients are received in 24 hours from the lab. Ram said, "Officials should take stock of the situation regarding the number of beds available in government and private hospitals daily. Patients should be immediately shifted to hospitals where beds are available. While taking necessary precautions, officials should ensure that commercial establishments in the villages are not affected. If these measures are implemented effectively, then the number of cases and mortality ratio will come down significantly."
