Pune: The city police department is mulling over the option of setting up a dedicated COVID Care Centre if the contagion spreads further in the department. Presently, total 247 police personnel have tested positive for CVOID-19 and out of them, 177 have recovered. Still 49 police personnel are undergoing treatment in the city and three deaths have been reported so far.
In Pimpri-Chinchwad too, more than 125 police personnel have been tested positive for COVID-19 and 75 of them have recovered. The Pimpri-Chinchwad police commissionerate has reserved space at the COVID Care Centre in Balewadi and some flats in Chakan for its staff.
Dr Ravindra Shisve, Joint Commissioner of Pune Police said, "A wellness team is working to prevent Covid-19 cases in the police department. This team communicates frequently with Covid-19 affected police personnel and boosts their morale. If the number of police personnel affected by Covid-19 increases in future, then we would start a separate COVID Care Centre for the department."
Sachin Kute, a policeman attached with the Faraskhana police station and who recently recovered from the disease says, "I don't know when and how I got infected with the coronavirus. I was under tremendous stress, but my family and senior officers of the department supported me and told me to not worry. I was under treatment for 25 days and later took rest for one month. Now I am back on duty. Coronavirus taught me to fight against all adversities."
