Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a well-equipped mobile laboratory, which will visit the containment areas to control the morbidity rate. It will focus on community areas, particularly senior citizens, for conducting tests. Tests will be carried out within seven minutes. It has been made available for free to citizens.
The civic body on Wednesday signed an MoU with the Krishna Diagnostic Centre, which has made available the fully equipped, AC mobile laboratory. The lab has facilities for COVID-19 sample collection, an instant X-ray machine, blood tests, blood pressure check facility, etc.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad said, “We are concentrating on community areas for testing senior citizens as they are in the high-risk group of the COVID-19. The bus will help in early detection of the infection in senior citizens in the containment areas. Through the instant X-ray facility, we can detect the COVID-19 infection. PMC will pay Rs 400 to Krishna Diagnostic Centre per test. Trained staff, along with doctors, will be available.”
Target of 400 tests per day
PMC has already increased testing samples per day. It has reached over 1,000 tests daily. The civic body has arranged mobile clinics, testing centre at schools in containment areas.
Pune is in the red zone, along with Mumbai. The civic administration has increased testing per day. Therefore, the number of patients is increasing. The death ratio is still high at over 5 per cent as compared to the national and state ratios. The national death ratio is 3.2 per cent, while the State death ratio is 4.5 per cent.
Rise in daily testing
The PMC has increased the testing of samples for COVID-19, which have reached over 1,000 tests daily. The civic body has also arranged mobile clinics and testing centre at schools in containment areas. It is targetting 400 tests per day using these mobile lab vans.
