Coronavirus Pune: Pimpri cops celebrate boy’s birthday

Pimpri: A police patrolling van of the Pimpri-Chinchwad police entered the Roseland Society in Pimple Saudagar at 7.30 pm on Sunday. However, they had not gone to chase any criminal or for arresting any resident. The purpose was to celebrate the birthday of a boy.

Vatsal Sharma’s father had gone to the US for a business trip. However, he got stranded there due to coronavirus (COVID-19) lockdown.

He was trying to connect with Vatsal to wish him a happy birthday, but due to some technical problems, they could not get connected.

The worried father wrote an email to Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Sandeep Bishnoi. He sought his help in conveying the message to the birthday boy.

The top cop instructed the officials of Sangvi police station under whose jurisdiction Sharma lived regarding the same. Soon, the police reached the society with a cake and message for the happily surprised boy.

Few residents also came down in the parking area where the boy cut cake on the bonnet of the police van.

“I had never expected such a special moment amid the lockdown. I am thankful to my father and the police department. I will never forget this birthday celebration,” Vatsal said.

Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Sable, in-charge of the Sangvi police station, said, “The occasion allowed us to connect with people for some happy moments in these gloomy times. It was an emotional connect. We understand the feelings of the citizens. People should also understand us and stay in their homes as per lockdown rules.”

Similar examples of law enforcement officials adding cheer to a citizenry suffering due to the double whammy of lockdown and COVID-19 can be seen across the world. In the United States, a boy from Kentucky saw cops turn up in full force to celebrate his birthday.

Following this, the Punjab Police came up with a similar idea. Police in Punjab’s Mansa district delivered a cake at the doorstep of a one-year-old. The warm gesture of the police personnel won many hearts and left the parents of the girl elated.
