Coronavirus Pune: CGST Pune Zone sanctions GST refunds of Rs 294 cr to tackle crisis

The step has been taken to ensure liquidity to exporters and trade during the crisis times of coronavirus.

PUNE: The Pune Zone of Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) has sanctioned 472 GST refunds of Rs 294 crore. The facility has been provided by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes (CBIT).

The Customs and CGST Pune Zone, sanctioned 4,589 drawback claims of Rs 19.55 crore and 957 IGST refund claims of Rs 30.55 crore, working 24X7 during the lockdown period from March 24 to April 12 ensuring liquidity to exporters and trade during the crisis times of COVID-19.

The government has launched a campaign for early redressal of Indirect Tax Refund and customs drawback (refund) claims of traders. This campaign will be run by the end of this month.

The CBIT on Thursday wrote a letter to the Principal Chief Commissioners of Customs and Central Tax Department in this regard, providing immediate relief to business units, especially units in the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sectors.

“CGST Pune Zone sanctioned 472 GST refunds of Rs 294 crore working from home using remote Access Facility provided by CBIC during lockdown period, from March 31 to April 12, providing liquidity to the trade and MSMEs in particular, in difficult times of COVID-19,” said a Joint Commissioner-rank officer of CGST Pune Zone.

The campaign called ‘Refund and drawback (return) special campaign’, will be carried out by the end of this month. It has been asked to do all correspondence on the available email id of the applicant. It is believed that the claims of Rs 18,000 crore of the units under taxes and customs refund schemes are pending.
