Coronavirus Pune: Areas in Wagholi to remain shut till May 23

Pune: Wagholi Gram Panchayat has decided to shut down all the shops except medical services till May 23, to stop the spread of coronavirus. However, the home delivery of essentials such as grocery and vegetables will be permitted during this period. As per the order, nobody can enter or leave Wagholi and people have to wear masks and use hand sanitiser.

Till now five COVID-19 positive patients have been detected under Gram Panchayat area, out of which four patients have been cured and discharged. The last positive patient was reported on April 25. Also, the District Collector on May 4 declared Wagholi area as containment zone with restrictions on the movement of people and vehicle.

MP Chavan, Village Development Officer, Wagholi Gram Panchayat said, "Since Wagholi is declared as the containment zone, therefore, this step was taken. Over two lakh population comes under the Gram Panchayat and it is extremely important to contain the infection. However, home delivery of essentials is permitted so that residents do not face any problems. There are SPO's (special police officers) formed by the local police and panchayat who are assisting people so that there should not be any inconvenience to the residents."

“We have also tied up societies with various self-help groups so to facilitate the supply of milk and vegetables for the convenience of the residents,” he added.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in Pune now have reached over 2,247 whereas total COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra now jumps to 19,063 with 731 deaths reported in the state.
