Coronavirus Pune: 140 Afghan nationals to return from city via special flight

Pune: As many as 140 Afghan nationals, including cadets, in training at the Pune-based National Defence Academy (NDA), will return to Afghanistan on Sunday from Pune airport.

A special flight has been arranged by the Government of Afghanistan for their citizens stranded in India.

The Afghan nationals in Pune were stranded in the city due to the lockdown which was imposed nationwide on March 25.

There are several cadets who are currently in training at the NDA who are scheduled to go back to Afghanistan. All passengers will return by Afghanistan's Kam Air flight.

"Afghanistan's Kam Air flight will arrive on Sunday at around 12 pm carrying some passengers to Pune. The same flight will return to Afghanistan at 1.30 pm," said Pune airport Director Kuldeep Singh.

All passengers will be screened before departure. The procedure of keeping two-metre distance between people will be followed at the airport. All passengers must wear masks. The flight operation will be conducted under the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

On April 18, around 125 passengers departed for Bahrain from Pune. Most of them were students. The flight was operated from Bahrain to Pune to Chennai to Bahrain. All arrangements had been made for thermal screening at departure entry to boarding. The same procedure will be followed on Sunday.
