Cops offer Rs 1,000 reward for info on sale of nylon and Chinese manja

PUNE: The city police have announced a reward of Rs 1,000 for information about sale of Chinese manja. Despite the ban on sale of glass-coated nylon and Chinese manja, there is no check on its sale in the city.

Last week two youths were injured after they got entangled in the Chinese manja. After the incident, Pune police raided 97 places. But they failed to catch a single vendor selling nylon and Chinese manja.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ashok Morale said, “Despite a ban on the sale and use of nylon and Chinese manja, how can such incidents of injury take place? Also, anyone informing us about a person or shop selling it will get a reward of Rs 1,000,” said Morale.

He said, “Two persons died last year. Several animals get injured and die. This year too, two youths suffered injuries. To prevent any such major mishap we have undertaken this drive,” said Morale.  He added, “The 97 places raided were earlier involved in illegal business. Some of these shops are in Nana Peth, Budhwar Peth, Deccan, Bund Garden, and Pune Cantonment.”
