Continental Prakashan to revamp Marathi classics

Pune: Marathi classics like Mruntunjay, Yugandhar and Chawa will be available for readers in new exciting formats, said Rutuparna Kulkarni, Director of Continental Prakashan Publishing House. He was speaking at a press conference held here on Saturday.

Recently, in a verdict of an Arbitration Tribunal, the rights of publishing these books written by Shivaji Sawant were given to Continental Prakashan Publishing House.

“We had a very hard time in last three to four years when the case was going on. But now that we have won, it feels very great. We were always clear about the contract and as per the contract done by the author, Shivaji Sawant, the rights of these books are with us. We are also giving royalty to the family of the author,” said Kulkarni.

He said the publishing house is happy to re-introduce these Marathi classics again to readers in a new revamped way.

He highlighted the menace of piracy. “It is sad to see that pirated books are on the rise in the market. We have confiscated many  pirated books at various places but the racket is still going on. The government has to amend rules and take a firm step in this direction. As a publishing house, we are liable to pay taxes to the government and royalty to the authors. But the piracy business only gives money to the publisher. Hence, the issue should be taken up by various stakeholders,” said Kulkarni.
