Congress protests water cut in Pimpri-Chinchwad area
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation administration had introduced alternate day water supply to all areas of the city with effect from November 25 for ensuing equitable water distribution to all city areas.
PIMPRI: The Congress organised a morcha to the municipal corporation headquarters here on Monday to protest against the alternate day water supply in Pimpri Chinchwad. A large number of women carrying empty vessels participated in the morcha.
The protesters shouted slogans against the civic administration and tanker lobby and demanded immediate restoration of regular daily water supply.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) administration had introduced alternate day water supply to all areas of the city with effect from November 25 for ensuing equitable water distribution to all city areas. The Pavana dam, which is the sole source of water supply to the city, has adequate water storage, the civic administration had clarified. It is maintained that the water cut measure has been resorted to overcome complaints of irregular and inadequate water supply to some city areas.
The morcha was led by Congress city president Sachin Sathe. In his address, Sathe alleged that the alternate day water supply was a result of the lack of planning by the BJP, the ruling group in the municipal corporation, and the Water Supply Department.
The PCMC’s Water Supply Department’s Executive Engineer Ramdas Tambe said that the water planning was required in view of the city’s increased population. He said that efforts are being undertaken to prevent water leakages and to find a solution to the present supply problems.
