Congress demands action against errant officials

Pune: Following the admission by PMC of 38 unauthorised advertisement boards along the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes, the Congress has demanded action against the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Sky and Sign Gepartment officials, who had granted permission to renew the licences of the unauthorised hoardings and banners across the city, instead of removing them.

PMC should deduct the permission and licence fees from the officials’ salaries, who were responsible for the same, he demanded.

Recently, the PMC found 38 unauthorised advertising boards along the BRTS corridors. The civic administration had provided details to Congress party leader and senior corporator in PMC Arvind Shinde in writing. Shinde demanded action against unauthorised hoardings, banners and advertising boards in the General Body meeting and criticised the civic administration for supporting illegal things.
However, the civic body did not act.

Shinde submitted a letter in the Standing Committee meeting to act against the unauthorised hoardings, advertising boards and banners across the city.

He wrote in the letter that there are several hoardings, banners, which have been set up disregarding the rules and regulation of the 2003 hoarding policy of PMC. The High Court has also directed the civic body to remove unauthorised hoardings, banners. However, it failed to act. The PMC is supposed to prepare a monthly action taken report against such hoardings and submit it to the High Court. But it is not happening. PMC is delaying floating of a tender for the removal of unauthorised hoardings, banners, Shinde said.

He also pointed out that there are unauthorised hoardings, banners in front and side margin of commercial establishments, on religious structures, road carriage areas, riverbed, nala beds, near PMC establishments, etc.
