PUNE: As Lok Sabha polls are approaching, the State Parliamentary committee of the Congress Party has finalised three candidates out of six for the Pune Lok Sabha Constituency. The panel has finalised names of former member of Legislative Council (MLC) Mohan Joshi, former Pune city unit chief Abhay Chhajed and senior corporator Arvind Shinde.
On Tuesday, Congress Parliamentary committee’s meeting was held in Mumbai in which the Pune city unit of the party submitted names of Joshi, Chhajed and Shinde. Earlier, Congress city unit had finalised six names i.e. Anant Gadgil, Abhay Chhajed, Balasaheb Shivarkar, Sharad Ranpise, Arvind Shinde and Vishwajeet Kadam.
Ramesh Bagwe, Pune city unit chief, said, “On January 26, we handed over a list of six aspirants for Pune Lok sabha Constituency for forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. Now, state parliamentary committee which consists of senior leaders like Ashok Chavan, Prithviraj Chavan and other senior leaders, will take a decision on our suggestions.”
He further said, “I don’t know what happened in the meeting but, we are expecting that a candidate will be selected in the first week of February.”
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, Congress candidate Vishwajeet Kadam had lost the seat to BJP’s Anil Shirole by lakhs of votes.
