Conference on education system held in the city

Pune: Heartfulness Education Trust had organised a conference on ‘Education: To Draw from Within’, highlighting the topic of ‘Preparing for the educational needs of the Alpha Generation’ for school management officials at mini auditorium of the College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) on Thursday.

More than 100 principals and directors attended the event. The conference addressed issues like result-oriented and examination-based education system which puts a lot of pressure on students to focus only on academic results, leading to a stressful life.

Alka Vaidya, Master Trainer at Centre of Excellence of Central Board of School Education (CBSE), one of the panelists spoke about the role of teachers in bringing up this generation and how the syllabus should be enhanced to make it more holistic. Traditional methods of teaching moral science were not as effective as it should have been. Now, special training is being given to teachers to deliver this syllabus, yet there is scope for improvement in this area, said Vaidya.

Ashwini Kulkarni, Executive Director of City Pride School, highlighted the journey of the Indian education system, from Gurukul system, through the times of the British Raj, till today. “The transformation of education system over the years benefitted us. But we need to teach children to filter information, as they are exposed to excess of it. There is a need to change focus from what to learn, to how to learn, as content will get quickly outdated in this fast moving era,” she said.

Malati Kalmadi, Director of Kaveri Group of Institutes, Nandkumar Kakirde, Director, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Sachin Pawar, Chairman of Ashwini International School were also present for the event.
