PUNE: “There are many expectations of farmers and also the government from the agricultural university. With the help of technology, production has increased. However, in future, there is a need to increase the productivity by reducing the total cost of production,” said Nalanda University Chancellor Vijay Bhatkar on Tuesday.
He was speaking in the city at The Kharif Agro Tech Fest which was held at College of Agriculture.
Bhatkar, who inaugurated the one-day exhibition said that it was important to combine technology with agriculture as it will help in generating employment.
He also urged the researchers to overcome all challenges.
The agriculture exhibition was organised for the farmers to witness live crop demonstrations of pulses, oilseeds, green manuring, fodder and cash crops.
Live demonstrations of numerous varieties of vegetables such as brinjal, dolichos, fenugreek and coriander among others also took place.
Various agricultural machinery developed by the university were also on
display.
Mahatma Phule Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor KP Vishwanatha was also present during the occasion and said that with the help of this kharif fest, farmers will be able to know about new technologies. Vishwanatha also said that it was important to move towards organic farming to reduce the cost of production.
