Pune: With a motto of ‘Passion We Breath and Innovation to Drive’, a 21-member team of College of Engineering, Pune (CoEP) students, once again is ready with Trike, a hybrid three-wheel vehicle with a carrying capacity of two for Efficycle competition to be held in October at Lovely University, Jalandhar.
Last year champions, these automobile enthusiasts of various faculties of the college, have improved upon the weight, suspension and installed GPS on Trike, which can be driven manually or battery operated.
The Trike Vulcan 5.0 was unveiled on Monday by College Director BB Ahuja in presence of faculty PR Dhamangaonkar, SL Patil, SN Sapali, various sponsors and the team members. The team will leave for the competition in a couple of days.
Yuvraj Bajaj, a former student and first team member of Velociracers, which was started in 2015, said, “We started participating in this competition as we found it very novel and challenging. And Velociracers is an SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) India Collegiate club of our college, providing students with a platform to design, fabricate and market a three-wheeled hybrid trike to promote the ‘Drive the future’ motto.”
“This year, we worked on making the vehicle more light as it will be more comfortable when using manually,” he said. “Last year, the weight of the vehicle was 100 kg. This time, we have made it 95 kg. It has the capacity to carry weight up to 250 kg. Besides that we have tried optimising on all other features of the Trike,” he added.
He also said, “We have worked on its suspension by using elastomer which gives a good dampening effect. The normal suspension works wherein we have a spring and dampener as it absorbs the shock. With this special material, we have endured its shock-ups.”
Elaborating upon the challenges or troubles, he said, “There was no ready made material available regarding the creation of it, so we had to use trial and error methods. Similarly, to get the right polymer, we had to work on 22 equations.”
During the unveiling ceremony, Director Ahuja said, “Hard work and passion is required more than just aiming at winning trophies and innovation never fails anyone.”
