Civic body plans repairs and restoration of Ambil Odha

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has planned repairs and restoration of Ambil Odha under a special project with an estimated budget of Rs 300 crore.

Against the backdrop of the recent flash floods, the civic administration has decided to improve the safety of residents along the stream and also increase the water carrying capacity of the odha.

While speaking to media, Additional Commissioner of PMC Shantanu Goyal said, “After the flash floods in Ambil Odha area, we have decided to deepen the channel, clean it and construct retaining walls along the odha.”

According to civic officials, the retaining wall will be built adjacent to the residential area which is almost five km long. The tenders will be issued and the actual groundwork will begin within two months.

The floods caused problems for the residents in Katraj, Kondhwa, Sahakar Nagar and Dhanakwadi areas from which Ambil Odha passes. Around 25 people died and 3,500 people were evacuated.

THE ODHA
Ambil Odha originates from the Katraj hills. A dam was built on the odha in Katraj during the Peshwa era creating two lakes. The Katraj Lake was created by the building of the dam on the odha.
