Civic body to complete road restoration before monsoon

Aniruddha Pawaskar said, “We have instructed all companies to stop digging after May 31 as we are trying to complete road restoration before monsoon.”

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) road department is trying hard to complete reinstatement of roads by June 7 before the onset of monsoon. At present, the corporation has given 150 kilometres of road digging permission to different telephone companies. Out of that, companies have dug 115 kilometres of roads so far and corporation completed the reinstatement of around 70 kilometres of roads till date.  

While speaking to Sakal Times, Aniruddha Pawaskar, Additional City Engineer, PMC road department, said, “We have instructed all companies to stop digging after May 31 as we are trying to complete road restoration before monsoon. We gave 150 kilometres of road digging permission to different private telecom companies, government’s electricity distribution, pipe gas and telecom companies.”

He further said, “We have completed reinstatement of around 70 kilometer. We are trying to complete before monsoon.”

Normally, the corporation gives permission to all cables companies to lay down their underground cables every year before monsoon and after monsoon. As per order, companies should have to stop laying cables from May 31 to September 1 every year. The new digging period starts from October to May 31. 

The Corporation charges Rs 5,500 per metre digging charges from companies to lay down cables. There is a provision of penalty if the company lays down cables without permission. It gives concession in digging charges for government companies on their request.

PMC gave permission to different companies - Maharashtra State Electrical Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Tata Communication, Tata Telecom, Idea Cellular, Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) Giga Solution Private Limited, Reliance, U Broadband and Cables India Private limited, Hughes Telecom limited, Dinesh Engineering Private limited, Bharati Airtel Private limited and Vodafone.
