Pune: On Friday, Pune witnessed its 10th heart transplant this year. The donor was a 19-year-old boy from Karnataka and his family donated his heart, liver and both kidneys at Yashodhara Hospital in Solapur. His heart was airlifted to Pune on a chartered flight.

The young boy suffered from a brain haemorrhage due to which he was declared brain dead and his parents gave consent for organ donation. As per Arti Gokhale of the ZTCC, his heart was allocated to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune and liver was allocated to Pune-based Sahyadri Hospital on Nagar Road and kidney to Apollo hospital in Nashik.

She further added that the transplant happened around Friday midnight.

“This is the 10th heart transplant of the city this year. Another good part is that even though the heart was brought at the same time the Chief Minister landed at the Pune airport, our DCP Traffic Pankaj Deshmukh gave priority to the heart to reach the hospital in time and later arrangements were made for the CM. The traffic police is working hard to promote organ donation in our city,” said Gokhale.

She further added that this is the 100th green corridor with the help of the Paune traffic police department.
