Circular traffic plan accepted by locals, employees: Traffic police

Pune: The Hinjawadi traffic police on Wednesday claimed that their plan of circular traffic implemented on Tuesday morning at Shivaji Chowk has been accepted by locals and employees of IT companies working in Hinjawadi.

Hinjawadi traffic police division will implement the diversion this week and will accept suggestions and objections till September 9. After this, they will take a decision on continuing the implemented circular traffic plan.

Speaking on the issue, Police Inspector K Mhaswade of Hinjawadi traffic division said that the plan is helping IT employees save about 20-25 minutes of their travel time. “We have got reviews that employees have reached home early by 15 to 20 minutes after leaving from their office,” added Mhaswade.

Speaking about the cooperation of locals and IT employees, Mhaswade said that they have accepted the plan and are happy about it. However, officials of the traffic division said that encroachment and bad condition of the roads at Shivaji Chowk is spoiling their plan and they are not able to get good results after implementing their plan. MIDC engineers visited the spot on Wednesday and had a discussion with the Hinjawadi police on the issue.

“The road from Bhumkar Chowk to Shivaji Chowk is quite narrow at Shivaji Chowk due to encroachment. Local shops, autorickshaws and illegal parking pose an obstruction to traffic flow at Shivaji Chowk. The road from Dmart to Shivaji Chowk is also in a bad condition which needs urgent repairs,” added an official from Hinjawadi traffic division.
