Children's Day celebrated at Garware Balbhavan

Pune: With the sole aim of bringing together children from different social stratas to play, Garware Balbhavan, near Sarasbaug, on Sunday celebrated Children's Day with children from lower economic section. This gave them a chance to blend with other children.

Around 150 children associated with NGOs like Dnyanadevi, Eklavya, Forbes Marshall, Khelghar, Swadhaar and Sarvesha Seva Sangh took part in the host of activities organised by Balbhavan on the occasion. “We have been celebrating Children's Day this way for past several years with the sole aim of bringing children belonging to different social stratas together to play," said Founder of Balbhavan Shobha Bhagwat.
She said, "At around 350 Balbhavan centres across the city, we encourage outdoor play activities for the children, as they are very essential for a child's overall development. In an ever-developing city like Pune, it is necessary to come together and save playgrounds for children as playing is the fundamental right of every child."

She said,“The Balbhavan centres in the city face several difficulties as their land is taken away for other developmental activities at times or residents complain of the nuisance and noise created by the children. It is necessary that Balbhavans get reserved area in every ward.”

Eight Balbhavan centres (namely Garware Balbhavan, Balranjan, Gubbare, Pareessparsha, Balvikas Centre, Kothrud, Balvikas Centre, Shaniwar Peth, Mahesh Balbhavan and Apla Balbhavan, Symbiosis Gubbare) participated in the programme.

Local Corporator Smita Vaste, Corporator Madhuri Sahasrabuddhe, social activist Shyamala Vanarase were present on the occasion to boost the children, and encouraged them to spend more time on outdoor activities.
