Pune: The Central Railway (CR) has appealed to people not to walk on or around the railway tracks. Indian Railways has cancelled passenger train services due to the lockdown across the country but freight trains and parcel trains continue to operate to ensure smooth supply of essential commodities across the country.
"Railways are running shramik special trains for the stranded workers, tourists, pilgrims, students and others. These trains are operated with the consent of both the states (where they are leaving from and where they are arriving). Special trains announced by Railways are also running from May 12" said CR Chief Public Relation Officer Shivaji Sutar.
So far, more than 100 shramik special trains have been run by Central Railway, which are running for different states of the country like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, Jharkhand, etc.
"Walking on the tracks along the railway tracks is extremely dangerous and strictly prohibited" he appealed.
"Railway authorities have intensified awareness campaigns to educate people through various means and not to cross railway tracks. Despite many awareness campaigns, it is seen that people cross the tracks or walk, risking their lives. The railway employees are advised to inform all concerned if they see people walking on the tracks," he added.
