Central Railway to add 10 nurseries in all divisions

PUNE: The Central Railway (CR) has developed nurseries at Pandharpur, Shirdi, Sainagar, Dudhani, Wadi, Manmad and Daund. About 10 more nurseries will be added in Mumbai, Bhusaval, Pune and Nagpur divisions this month under Swachhata Pakhawada activity.

The Indian Railways is observing ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ from September 11 to October 2 to ensure improvement in cleanliness at all its premises i.e. stations, trains, offices, colonies, workshops, maintenance depots, hospitals, etc. Special attention is being given to clean track approaches to major railway stations, solid waste management including ban of plastic and water use efficiency.

Central Railway will undertake anti-littering and impose penalty under the ‘polluter pays’ principle with the active participation of railway staff along with NGOs, charitable institutions, passengers and public at large for their voluntary physical contribution towards ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’.

Central Railway General Manager AK Gupta, while exhorting the Principal Heads of Departments and Divisional Railway Managers, said, “This would create a healthy environment for us to celebrate October 2 as ‘The 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi’ with highest cleanliness standards of our stations, trains, colonies, hospitals and health units.”

September 17 will focus on “collection of plastic waste” all over Indian Railways. Shramdaan will be carried out at every station with participation from all railway employees, families, union representatives, railway pensioners, and other stakeholders and self-help groups.

Awareness campaigns for creating an impact against plastic, vendors to be educated not to use plastic due to single-use plastic ban in Maharashtra, replacements/substitutes for plastic items to be displayed and distribution of cloth bags are being done. A collection of plastic from all railway premises with attention on approaches to stations will be done.
