Cease Work Notice Issued to Yewale Tea Stalls Across City

PUNE: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Pune division has issued a ‘cease work’ notice to Yewale Amruttulya, the popular tea stalls across the city.

The FDA took this action in the light of recent news from Jalgaon regarding the products being used while making the tea at the tea chain.

In an official statement, FDA officials confirmed that various discrepancies were found in the godown of the tea chain in Kondhwa.

Under the guidance of Suresh Deshmukh, Joint Commissioner (Food) and FDA officers Imran Hawaldar and Ramakant Kulkarni during their search at Yewale Food Products godown have seized products worth Rs 6 lakh.

As per the Food Safety Act, 2006, it is mandatory to have product details on packed items. However, the FDA found that no such labels were found on the tea powder, sugar and tea masala.  FDA officials also found that there was no pest control done at the godown and there was no information about the packing covers in which these ingredients were packed.

The supplier at Kondhwa also does not have proper documents as per the FDA rules.

The FDA has also launched a complaint with the Advertising Standards Council of India against the misleading advertising line like ‘Yewale Tea does not lead to acidity’.

Navnath Yewale, the director of the tea chain, could not be reached for his comments even after repeated attempts.
