CBSE to include book on gallant award winners in syllabus, says Bipin Rawat

Pune: Army Chief General Bipin Rawat on Thursday said that from next year the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will include in its syllabus a book, highlighting the gallant actions of highest gallantry award winners from the armed forces. He added that efforts are on display bio-data, records of gallantry award winners in all colleges and universities of the country.

Rawat was speaking at a felicitation programme organised by BN Srivastava Foundation at Dhanvantri Auditorium at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Wanawadi, to celebrate the completion of ten years of greeting card activities which involved preparation and distribution of greeting cards to the armed force by the foundation. The event was attended by 1,100 school children, teachers and principals.

“As far as honouring our martyrs are concerned, this year we approached the Human Resources Development (HRD) ministry to ensure that valour, bravery and sacrifice of some of our highest award winners are taught in the schools. Therefore this year we have come out with a book (published last month) which highlights the gallant actions of our gallantry award winners from the armed forces. This book will become a part of CBSE syllabi next year as this is what promised by the minister,” Rawat said.

“Efforts are being to display sketches and prints of the award winners (from the forces), the brief bio-data and record of their achievements in all universities and colleges throughout India,” Rawat said.

Speaking to reporters later, Rawat, on the issue of Army being summoned to build bridges in Mumbai, said, “We do feel that if we can aid the government by doing a faster job before there are more casualties.”

When asked about the situation on the China border, Rawat said everything is peaceful on the Indo-China border.

Quizzed about whether the talks initiated by interlocutors among stakeholders of the State and Army’s ongoing operation in the State will go together, Rawat said, “Interlocutors will have their dialogue and we will do our job.”
