Businessman shot dead in Rahatani

Pune: A 44-year-old businessman was shot dead in Rahatani in Pimpri-Chinchwad late in the night on Monday. The murder has again raised a question on the law and order situation in the area.

The murdered businessman was identified as Anil Dhotre, a resident of Prabhat Colony in Rahatani. Dhotre runs an establishment by the name of Jyoti Tours & Travels at Panchpir Chowk in Kalewadi area and was on his way home when he was shot dead by the two motorcycle-borne assailants.

According to the Wakad police, Dhotre closed his shop at 11.20 pm and left for home on his motorcycle. En-route he was confronted by motorcycle-borne assailants who pumped bullets into his chest and sped away from the spot with the bag with cash amounting to Rs 1.96 lakh.

Satish Mane, Police Inspector, Wakad police station, said, “The whole incident got captured on CCTV camera and two persons can be seen murdering the victim. The duo killed the businessman with the clear objective to rob him of his money. We have formed three teams other than the teams of Crime Branch and we are hopeful that we are going to nab the culprits soon.”

The police have registered a case under section 302 (murder) and  394 (Voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) of Indian Penal Code against the two suspects.
