British Council has developed unique content that parents and kids can use to learn English and engage in fun-based activities during the period of coronavirus lockdown.

PUNE: British Council has developed unique content that parents and kids can use to learn English and engage in fun-based activities during the period of coronavirus lockdown.

LearnEnglish Kids has lots of activities related to common topics that children study at school and with most pages designed for children to work through independently.

The parents can assign activities to their children, depending on the students’ syllabus.

There are activities where the children can challenge their friends online over a chat or video call. Parents can also indulge their children in craft activities as per videos on the website.

Vocabulary games for children

  • Word games: LearnEnglish Kids has got lots of picture-word matching games on many different topics
  • Songs and stories: The songs and stories on the website have preparation vocabulary games for children to play before they watch the video, to help them learn new words
  • Word bags: You can ask your children to look in their school English book and choose five words from each unit they have studied so far, or words from activities they have done on LearnEnglish Kids. Ask them to make mini word cards by writing the words on small pieces of paper.

There are several more activities planned by the British Council, all free of cost for the parents and children for the lockdown period. Log on to https://learnenglishkids.britishcouncil.org/covid-19-support-for-parents.
