BJP, NCP supporters celebrate at centres

PUNE: With BJP winning lesser seats this Assembly elections compared to 2014, BJP supporters decided to keep their celebration low, as not many people had gathered at the Balewadi Sports Complex to celebrate the win of BJP candidates sitting MLA Mahesh Landge and Laxman Jagtap.

About 300 supporters armed with BJP and saffron flags had gathered near the Balewadi Sports Complex to celebrate the victory of Landge and Jagtap.

Supporters of Laxman Jagtap raised slogans of ‘Bhau, Bhau’ and ‘BJP Vijay Aso’. While Landge supporters raised slogans of ‘Aamcha Neta Powerful’.

Following the victory, the supporters exchanged greetings and sweets and hurled ‘gulal’ on each other.

A large number of police officials were deployed at the spot to regulate traffic and maintain law and order.

Landge attributed his victory to the party leaders and supporters. “I will continue to work for my people. The rising population has led to a rise in several demands and we will continue to provide people with the necessary facilities as demanded by them,” said Landge.

Jagtap said, “I will continue to work for my people whether I get a ministerial post or not.”

While NCP candidate Anna Bansode managed to steal the Pimpri seat after defeating Shiv Sena’s Gautam Chabukswar, the former too decided to have low celebration as there were very few supporters outside the Balewadi Sports Complex.

Amidst the anticipation of results, the first celebration at Food Corporation of India (FCI), Koregaon Park counting centre was started by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) supporters following the victory of Chetan Tupe from Hadapsar constituency.

The celebration by NCP supporters continued amidst light spells of rain as the party managed to get two seats in Pune city. The elated supporters were soaked with ‘gulal’ and were chanting slogans. The BJP supporters were also seen celebrating but sans enthusiasm.
