Pune: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led governments at the Centre and State saying that both the governments came to power showering promises on voters but failed to deliver on all fronts. This government is talking about development, but nothing has changed on the ground, he claimed.
The NCP started its Halla-Bol agitation against the BJP from Pune under leadership of Pawar. He led the NCP morcha from Tilak Chowk in Mandai to the Collector's Office. Pawar was speaking at a public meeting conducted at the Collector's Office. This rally was part of NCP's fortnight-long stir in which the party is planning a 153-km march from Yavatmal to Nagpur during the winter session of State Legislature. The agitation will conclude on December 12 in Nagpur in presence of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar.
Ajit Pawar said, "It seems the present governments at the Centre and State have forgotten the long list of promises made during the campaign. Farmers, youths, working class and business community are facing a tough time. There is large scale discontent. People from Pune have given a lot to ruling BJP but it is not solving the problems. There are lots of announcement but no implementation at all."
He said, "The government has made a scapegoat of IT secretary Ajay Gautam for failure of implementation of farmers' loan waiver on time. In other cases, officials from Mumbai university were suspended. Instead of taking action against officials why is the government not taking action against State Education Minister and Co-operative Minister?"
Pawar defended the NCP candidate for legislative council poll. "It needs to be seen whether allegations of rape made against him are out of political rivalry," he said.
NCP city unit chief Vandana Chavan said, "People are fed up with this government due to its failure on all fronts. Therefore, the NCP is getting a huge response from the public for its agitation. The NCP is going to keep alive these sentiments through continuous effort."
The NCP has organised three back-to-back agitations against the government in the city.
