BJP adjourns meet sans discussion on municipal bonds

Pune: The BJP on Friday, did not allow opposition members to express their views on municipal bonds for the 24x7 water scheme at the PMC General Body meeting.

After congratulating the office bearers, Mayor Mukta Tilak adjourned the meeting without allowing any discussion on it.

Leader of the House, Srinath Bhimale, put forth a proposal to congratulate PMC office-bearers and administration on becoming the first municipal corporation in the country to use municipal bonds.

As soon as BJP put forward the proposal in front of the General Body, the opposition parties created an uproar. They blamed the ruling party for making the PMC bankrupt by borrowing huge loans.

The municipal secretary decided to call a vote on the proposal. During the voting process, the opposition parties, including Nationalist Congress Party, Shiv Sena, Congress and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena demanded they be allowed to speak on this proposal.

Usually, it is a tradition in the PMC that if any member demands to be allowed to speak on any issue while carrying out the vote, the Mayor allows them to express their views. But BJP decided not to allow the opposition to speak and adjourned the General Body meeting.

Opposition party members walked out from the General Body before the adjournment of the House.
