Bizman robbed on Expressway

PUNE: A businessman was robbed of cash and ornaments worth Rs 2.5 lakh by four  persons armed with sharp weapons near Urse toll plaza on Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Tuesday. 

According to Talegaon Dabhande police, the victim, Rahul Uttam Shirsath was on his way to Satara in his four-wheeler.

At 4 am he thought of taking a break and stopped two kilometers ahead of Urse toll plaza when the robbers struck. 

Senior Police Inspector Mugut Patil of Talegaon Dabhade police station who is investigating the case said Rahul was in the car along with five of his family members. 

“As it was raining heavily there was mist on the windscreen of Rahul’s car. He thought of quickly wiping the car. It was then the robbers approached Rahul and pretended to help him in cleaning the windscreen. They then brandished sharp weapons at Rahul and asked him to hand over his chain and cash. The robbers did not harm anybody and fled with the gold chain and cash,” added Patil.

Police officials have frequently warned commuters to avoid halting at isolated places on the Expressway.
