Biomedical waste collection sys to start in Kothrud area soon

Pune: A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator from Kothrud, Manjushree Khardekar, has come forward to start a biomedical waste collection system with help from private companies, under corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity.

Khardekar represents Kothrud and Prabhat Road and it was found that the quantity of biomedical waste in this area is huge. Doctors, who are general practitioners, are mixing their garbage with regular garbage and there is a large quantity of dressing material, expired medicines and urine bags collected in this area.

It becomes difficult for the employees to collect door-to-door garbage daily due to the quantity.

Considering this, Khardekar spoke with some private companies to sort out this problem. Global Groups’ Manoj Hingorani and Sanjeev Arora have sponsored a tempo for collection of the biomedical waste.

The biomedical waste will be collected and handed over to the contractor appointed by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for proper treatment and disposal. Khardekar said that this activity will be executed on CSR basis.
