Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge's posters in Gujarati spark a row

PIMPRI: Bhosari’s Independent MLA Mahesh Landge’s posters in Gujarati and other languages, claiming credit for implementing various projects in Pimpri Chinchwad have sparked a row.

There were strong reactions in social media against the Gujarati and other language posters put up by the MLA, who is seeking to contest the forthcoming Assembly polls on a BJP ticket.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has objected to the MLA preferring languages other than Marathi for his poster campaign.

MNS City Unit President Sachin Chikhale said the party will agitate against the Gujarati language banners put up in Pune district.

The posters claim credit for seeking extension of the Metro project up to Nigdi and Chakan and for giving financial benefit to farmers whose land was acquired by the Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (Pradhikaran).

Some of the posters carry sentences in other Indian languages. The posters acknowledge the plurality of languages and ideologies in the country and clarifies pride for Marathi language and also honours other Indian languages. A majority of the voters in Bhosari Assembly constituency have a rural background. Around 23 per cent of them are originally from outside the State. These posters are a move to reach out to non-Marathi speaking voters.
