Baha’i Community To Celebrate Bicentenary Of Bab Tomorrow

PUNE: The Baha’i community will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Bab on October 28 in the city. There are about 200 people from the community residing here.

Ahanta Shoghi, secretary of the Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is, said, “In countless settings and places around the world, people will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of the Bab, whose revitalising message prepared the way for the coming of Baha’u’llah, the founder of the Baha’i faith.”

Deepak Dalal, an author, added, “One of the primary objectives of the Baha’i faith is to promote unity. The Baha’is of Pune work actively with children in promoting unity amongst our diverse people.” Bab was born on October 20, 1819, in Shiraz, Iran. He was persecuted on July 9, 1850. The Bab’s teachings are well-known for the purity of heart and manner of deeds that transcend mere words and beliefs. Bab endorsed the importance of science and praised the cultural and scientific developments. Besides this, Bab helped rising women powerfully which was represented by one of his pre-eminent followers, Tahirih.

Shoghi added, “A pivotal concept in the Bahá’í teachings is that the refinement of one’s inner character and service to humanity are inseparable facets of life. As such, Bahá’ís throughout the world-both individually and collectively-strive to become involved in the life of society, working shoulder to shoulder with diverse groups.”

The community members will gather at Poona Club in Camp, on October 28 from 6.30 pm onwards for the celebration.
