Autorickshaw driver held for robbing man

PUNE: An autorickshaw driver has been arrested by the Pune city police for allegedly looting cash from a passenger while ferrying him to the Pune railway station last month.

The arrested accused has been identified as Santosh Gulab Namdas (34), a resident of Kalepadal in Hadapsar.

The complainant Kumar Satpute (23), a resident of Sadashiv Peth, had lodged an FIR with the Faraskhana police station against him on Wednesday.

According to the police, the incident took place around 1.30 pm on July 20. Satpute had hired the autorickshaw from Pasodya Vithoba Temple in Budhwar Peth to go to the Pune railway station. However, instead of taking him to the destination, the driver and his accomplice took Satpute to the Army area in Camp and robbed him of Rs 1,250.

When asked about the delay in registering the case, Assistant Police Inspector AB Khetmalis, who is investigating the case, said, “The complainant had gone to his village. After he returned, he approached us on Thursday and we registered the case. The driver has been arrested.”

“The accused was produced before a judicial magistrate court which remanded him to two-day police custody. We have launched a search for his accomplice,” Khetmalis added.
