Authorities all set to check COVID-19 in Pune

PUNE: With five positive cases of COVID-19 in Pune being confirmed on Tuesday, the district administration and the health department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), along with Pune police are taking measures to contain the cases to the minimum.

As a precautionary measure, the district administration has appointed a five-member team comprising a revenue officer, a health officer, an officer from PMC and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and a police official to reach out to persons who have come in contact with those who tested positive in Pune.

“As a standard procedure to ensure that the transmission is restricted, this five-member team will track people who came in contact with the couple between March 1 and March 9. We have taken details of every individual and we are trying to reach them,” said Divisional Commissioner Dr Deepak Mhaisekar.

He said that the couple had visited Dubai with a group of 40 people in February end and returned on March 1. One of these two patients had problems and visited the doctor on March 8. His reports were found positive.

District Collector Naval Kishor Ram said that COVID-19 can be treated if precautions are taken and treatment is started as soon as possible.

“Hence, the members of the teams and the citizens should not panic. The divisional commissioner had on Monday held a four-hour meeting and a three-hour long meeting on Tuesday for guiding all staff in the administration,” he said.

207 ISOLATION BEDS ACROSS THE CITY
According to the district administration, 207 beds in 21 hospitals are available across PMC and PCMC as isolation wards for suspected cases. “These arrangements have been made as a precaution in case, the number of suspected patients increases,” said Mhaiseker.

APPEAL TO DOCTORS
Mhaiseker also appealed to all doctors of the district through the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and said that the doctors should keep separate information of all patients who are coming to India from foreign countries.
