Assembly polls 2019: Candidates to file nomination from today

PUNE: Officials of the district administration said on Thursday that this assembly election, they are trying to accommodate all polling stations on the ground floor itself and are trying to provide temporary shades to avoid inconvenience to people. 

District Collector Naval Kishore Ram who was addressing media on Thursday evening said that they have kept a deadline of constructing these temporary shades a week ahead of the election date. The collector said that about 280 such shades will be built. Speaking on model code of conduct, Ram said that as the filing of candidate nominations will start on Friday, the administration department will keep a special watch on candidates once they have filed their nominations.

Speaking about addition of new voters, Ram said that about 46,000 fresh voter applications were received of which 28,000 were accepted till Thursday and about 3,000 were rejected. Speaking on election preparedness, Ram said that the media monitoring committee and expenditure committee has been formed. “We have also asked the excise department to keep a strict watch on the sale of alcohol during the election period. In Lok Sabha elections, we took action against liquor sellers who had violated rules and this time too, we will take similar action,” added Ram.

Speaking on complaints received through C-Vigil application, Ram said that about 20 complaints were received till Thursday evening, of which 17 were accepted and forwarded for further verification and three were rejected.
