Army jawan assaults wife, tries to kill self

According to police, the incident took place around 4.30 am Sunday in Vishrantwadi.

Pune: A 33-year-old Army jawan has been booked by Vishrantwadi police for allegedly attempting to kill his wife with a knife and then attempting to kill himself. Both have been admitted in a hospital and their condition is said to be out of danger.

Police officials said that the soldier is posted in Jammu and Kashmir. He came here a few days back on leave. A heated argument and fight took place between the couple, following which the soldier attacked his wife with a knife.

The wife has sustained multiple injuries while the soldier received an injury on his neck. After the incident, their relatives called the police and an ambulance.

Senior Police Inspector Arun Avhad said that an FIR for an offence under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the soldier. An investigation is on to ascertain the exact sequence of event, he said.
