Army, civil authorities meet to solve various issues

PUNE: A district-level Civil Military Liaison Conference was held between the Army and civil authorities at Headquarters Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area on Saturday. 

The conference was chaired by General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Maharashtra and Goa Sub Area Major General Navneet Kumar and was attended by District Collector Naval Kishore Ram, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar, Defence Estates Officer Rajendra Pawar, Pune Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer Amit Kumar and heads of other departments viz health, railways, police, traffic, water, airport authority, forest and various others. 

The conference, second in the series, was aimed to create a synergy among military and civil authorities and resolve issues concerning security, land, civic amenities, health, law and order and welfare of serving and ex-servicemen in respect to Pune, Kirkee, Dehu Road and Khadakwasla Cantonment and Military Stations. In addition, follow-ups of various matters raised during the previous conference were also discussed. 

As per a press release issued by the Army, “The highlights of the conference were enhanced security mechanism, intelligence sharing, provision of additional traffic lights and constables in cantonment, reserved place for paying homage to martyrs at airport, provision of additional storage space and waiting area for defence personnel at Pune Railway Station, clearance of water hyacinth from Mula river, afforestation and cattle transfer to Animal Husbandry department. Both sides agreed that there is a need for frequent interaction at various functional levels and meeting on a quarterly basis.”

Addressing the gathering, Major General Navneet Kumar brought out the need for continuation of such fruitful interactions to achieve greater cooperation for the benefit of serving soldiers, ex-servicemen and their families. 

Pune District Collector Naval Kishore Ram appreciated the efforts by the army authorities for being proactive in resolving long-pending issues and promised to hold follow-up meetings.

PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar lauded the efforts of all the officials in facilitating smooth inter-departmental cooperation and apprised the gathering about the proactive measures being undertaken by PCMC.
