Anti-social elements disrupt railway traffic

PUNE: The Pune railway division is facing problems from anti-social elements. These unidentified persons are trying to disrupt the railway services.

On Monday morning, the railway authorities found a big bamboo lying on the Overhead Wire (OHE), which affected trains’ movement for some time.

Divisional spokesperson Manoj Kumar Jhawar said, “A bamboo of around three-and-half metres’ length, with an iron hook, had been thrown on the OHE, which affected the services.”

“The incident took place between Jehangir Hospital and Alankar Talkies railway track. The bamboo was thrown on the railway track but it got stuck on the OHE. When the bamboo burnt, it created flames, which could have caused a big incident,” he added.

This is not the first incident of its kind. A similar incident took place last year in the monsoon. However, this time flames erupted. Several trains were forced to stop and the traffic movement was affected.

“People are advised not to throw any items on the railway track from rail overbridge or from station’s foot overbridge. Often clothes, wires, belts and other items are thrown on the OHE wire by people in the settlements along the railway boundary. This affects the  operations of the trains,” said Jhawar.
