Another garden planned for ‘divyangs’

PUNE: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is already developing a garden for the special persons in Vadgaon Sheri area. It is the first such kind of garden in the city. The PMC Standing Committee has proposed another such special garden to be named after the late BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.

The Standing Committee tabled the civic budget for 2020-21 last week. Chairman Hemant Rasane announced the special garden for the Divyangs (special persons). The purpose of the garden is to spread awareness about the mental, social and physical health of the special people.

The garden will consist of a xylophone, an acupressure corner, a sound system, a fountain, a sensory park, a gym for the special persons and other such facilities.

The civic body will plant 42 different plants and display information about them in the Braille script. It will also set up a pipe railing and write instructions on the railing so that the special people can walk without taking help from others.

The Standing Committee has allocated funds of Rs 1.50 crore for the garden. However, the location of the second garden is not mentioned in the budget.

Chief Superintendent of the Garden Department Ashok Ghorpade told Sakal Times, “At present, the PMC is developing a garden for the special people in Vadgaon Sheri. It is the first such garden for such people. It is spread over an area of 2.5 acres. For the past one year, we have been developing the garden. It will be completed next year.”

There are 201 gardens in the city. Of these, over 20 gardens have been developed on different themes.
