Ambil Odha Flash Flood Victims Form Committee For More Relief

Pune: The residents of slum areas on the banks of Ambil Odha like Tangewale Colony, Annabhau Sathe Vasahat, Dandekar Bridge area, have come together to form an action committee demanding more special compensation against the loss of property and livelihood caused due to the floods in September.

Dr Nikhil Edke of Naujawan Bharat Sabha, who has been coordinating the action committee ‘Ambil Odha Purgrasta Nagrik Sangharsh Samiti’ said, “The residents have only received Rs 15,000 as compensation from the government. However, considering the extent of destruction and losses caused by the flash floods, it was necessary that those affected were provided with another special package.”

The committee has been demanding that the affected must be given additional compensation of Rs 30,000 and aid in the form of means of livelihood, books for school children, rent and duplicate copies of documents lost or ruined in the flood.

Residents of Tangewale Colony, Annabhau Sathe slum area on survey numbers 129, 130, 133, 134 and 214 and Dandekar Bridge, Rajendranagar and Ambedkar Vasahat have come together to form this committee. The panel will continue to fight until the government rebuilds the compound wall of Ambil Odha and the houses that had collapsed in the flood.
