Airport cargo area to be relocated at BSO

PUNE: The cargo area at Pune airport will be relocated to a vacant BSO (Barrack Store Office) yard land. This will facilitate construction of the new terminal building of the airport.

This decision was taken at a meeting held on December 26 last year, in New Delhi at  Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari’s residence. Gadkari is also Chairman of Infrastructure Committee, Government of India.  Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Pune District Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, MP Anil Shirole and MP Dilip Gandhi were present for the meeting along with officers of Defence Ministry, National Highways Authority of India and Airports Authority of India.

Apart from the relocation of cargo area to BSO yard land, relocation of cargo area to vacant land behind the hangers was considered and a formal proposal may be forwarded.

It was requested that the process of land allotment to IAF and AAI by State Government for relocation of BSO yard and CWE (Commander Works Engineer) Office be expedited. Till the time it is fully relocated, AAI is to be given working permission for relocation of cargo in presently vacant BSO yard land to facilitate the construction of new terminal building.

Shirole said the issue of Chandni Chawk flyover was discussed and working permission granted for the area of 0.48 hectares that lies between Chandni Chowk and  the National Defence Academy (NDA).
