On Monday, the Standing Committee approved the proposal of giving aid to victims of Patil Estate slums fire. Yogesh Mulik, Chairman of the Standing Committee said, “The State Government has announced aid to victims of the Patil Estate slums fire. Besides that, the civic body has decided to provide financial aid to them. We approved the proposal of around Rs 26 lakh to affected families.”

According to a survey conducted by the PMC, a total of 306 families were affected due to the fire. Out of that, 177 families have lost their huts totally. The PMC will give financial aid of Rs 11,000 per family in this category. The remaining families, who have been partially affected, will get Rs 5,000 each.

A massive fire left the citizens suffering in November. Over 200 shanties were gutted in the blaze. The civic administration has made temporary arrangements for these people. Space in the two municipal schools has been allotted to them. The PMC has made arrangements for food and shelter for them.

As per the locals, the area has two slum pockets including Patil Estate slum and Mahatma Gandhi Vasahat and they are spread over around 6 acres of land. The shanties developed on around 4 acres of land are ‘declared slums’ giving them legal status, while those on remaining two acres are illegal.
