Adulteration: Ramdev seeks lifer for culprits

Mumbai : Yoga Guru-enterprenuer Ramdev Baba on Wednesday demanded life imprisonment for those indulging in adulteration of food and drugs.

Ramdev Baba, accompanied by Minister Ashish Shelar, was talking with the media about the International Yoga Day (June 21) to be celebrated at Nanded by the State government.

The government has organised a high profile event to observe ‘International Day of Yoga’. The event will be attended by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as well as the yoga guru.

Ramdev Baba said that Yoga is solution to many diseases. “Everyone will have to do yoga regularly to keep illness away,” he said.

When quizzed about adulterated food and fruits, Ramdev Baba said that there is stringent punishment in China and other European countries.

“In European countries, they don’t allow agri products having pesticides or fertilisers in the market. In China, anyone found selling adulterated food in market will be punished by death. In India, at least, life imprisonment should be there,” he demanded. On good health, the Yoga guru said: “Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak had said ‘Swaraj Is My Birthright’. I say, ‘Health is my birthright’. I consider good health as important as anything else that is good for the people.”

He said he was perturbed over the increasing incidents of Indians suffering diseases like diabetes, blood pressure, obesity, stress, etc., and said yoga and ayurveda should be a party of the “journey of life”.

Around 200 trainers from the Patanjali Yog Samiti will be present at the event and they are conducting training camps at several academic institutions. About 5,000 to 6,000 people will attend the function at Nanded.

The International Yoga Day will be observed at 358 places in all 36 districts and 322 talukas, where 5,000 students from colleges, NCC and scout guides will attend the function.
